Dr. Stephen Wetmore

Dr. Wetmore graduated from the University of Toronto in medicine in 1975. He interned at the Toronto East General Hospital and then went into general practice in Mount Forest Ontario. , where he practiced for 17 years, until 1993 when he moved to London

r. Wetmore graduated from the University of Toronto in medicine in 1975. He interned at the Toronto East General Hospital and then went into general practice in Mount Forest Ontario., where he practiced for 17 years, until 1993 when he moved to London.

He received his CCFP in 1983, via the practice eligible route. That same year he was appointed a coroner for the Province of Ontario and continues to perform these duties today.

He has served on national committees for the College of Family Practice of Canada and has been the chair of the Scientific Programme Committee and the Convention Committee for the Ontario College of Family Physicians. He was a member of Council of the Canadian Medical Protective Association from 1997-2003, serving on the Investment, Research and Education and Executive Committees.

In 1991 he was honoured by the Town of Mount Forest for work done in the emergency department at the time of a physician’s strike. He was awarded Citizen of the year and recommended for the Canada 125 Commemorative medal, which was awarded in 1991.

Dr. Wetmore and his family moved to London in 1993, when he began teaching family medicine in the Department of Family Medicine, The University of Western Ontario. He has twice been awarded the Dr. Ian McWhinney teaching award by family medicine residents. He was appointed to Associate professor in family medicine in 1999. He has been the program director of the family medicine training program since 2001.  He was awarded the CAME award of merit in 2004 and the Schulich educator award for Postgraduate medicine in 2005.

Dr Wetmore joined the executive of the Ontario College of Family Physicians in 2005. He has served as Honourary Treasurer and is currently President-elect of the OCFP.

He has four grown children and one grandson and enjoys golf, mountain biking and curling among other things.
