I commend you for holding this on-line conference.
The issues of health care delivery are extremely important and, despite Royal Commissions and much public discussion, there is still room to review suggestions for change and values to be preserved.
...health care can be most efficiently provided if there is a single payer, but that the upward elasticity of demand will pose a continuing challenge to providers.
My own somewhat simplistic view on some aspects of the current debate is that health care can be most efficiently provided if there is a single payer, but that the upward elasticity of demand will pose a continuing challenge to providers. Much health care is currently provided privately but regulated as to cost and method of delivery by the provinces. If it is regulated primarily to save money, the quality or accessibility of care may be threatened.
If it is inevitable that health care must be rationed (because of upward elasticity of demand) we must work to ensure that it is rationed according to medical need and not ability to pay.
What do you think ? Dean Drummond would like to hear from you ...
