Promotion and Prevention for Young People
|
P rofessor Louise Rowling, with the University of Sydney, Australia, has earned an international reputation for her work on school health particularly in the areas of drug and alcohol education, loss and grief, health promoting schools, and mental health and wellbeing. Professor Rowling was a Chief Investigator for the development phase of MindMatters, Australia’s national mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention strategy in schools. She is heading a collaboration with the International Confederation of Principals to advance school mental health promotion globally. As a first planning step in this project Professor Rowling is co-ordinating an International Survey of Principals concerning Mental Health and Well-Being.
Professor Rowling’s presentation focuses on the ‘why’ , the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ of school mental health promotion - an emerging area of practice in many countries. She addresses the importance of focusing on young people, what’s involved in school mental health promotion, how one ‘does’ school mental health promotion; and what quality practice, in school mental health promotion looks like.
