D r. Sandra Romano Anthony is a Nutritionist and Health Promoter who teaches Nutrition and Stress Management at the University of Toronto, throughout Ontario, the USA and the Caribbean. She ‘translates’ science into lay language so that everyone can understand and delivers the message with both humour and passion. With respect to Nutrition, her earlier research focussed on the ‘Assessment of Nutritional Status’ and the ‘Neurochemical Control of Food Intake and Macronutrient Selection’.
There are two quotes which are attributed to Hippocrates (circa 450 B.C.), “Let food be thy medicine” and “Leave the drugs in the chemist’s pot if you can heal the patient with food”. We now know that he was right; many chronic diseases are connected to how and what we eat - and how we manage stress. This is the focus of Dr. San’s mission – she is obsessed with “spreading scientifically sound nutritional information to counter what’s being disseminated by quacks and people with no conscience”.
Dr. San is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of the West Indies. She has worked for the World Health Organization and several community health agencies in Toronto. She currently serves on the North Health Committee, Toronto Board of Health, and as part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Diversity Mission Reference Group. Dr. Sandra Romano Anthony volunteers with numerous religious and community organisations, including Soroptimist International, Toronto. She has never been married and has no children but ‘mothers’ everyone – so, look out!
