L arry Peterson is a founder of Open Space Institute of Canada and has facilitated over 275 Open Space events. He is known world-wide for his work with Open Space Technology and has led over 15 training programs in Canada, the US, Australia and Taiwan. He has published numerous articles and is seen as a conceptual leader in understanding complex systems and emergent processes. He coaches facilitators, leaders and teams in strategic leadership and the use of Open Space Technology.
With his degrees in both Engineering and Religion, Larry has pursued organizational consulting since 1991 with his firm Associates in Transformation. In the 1970’s and 80’s he organized a Canada-wide network of people and organizations responding to homelessness. He now works with clients and other consultants to design and facilitate meetings and to accelerate projects and change process.
The last ten years have included substantial work in the healthcare sector. Larry assisted the Health Transformation initiative of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in its launch of regional Local Health Integration Networks across the Province. The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia chose Larry to design and facilitate a key Open Space event for 150 regional leaders to enable the shift from being an association to becoming a self-regulating college. He had previously facilitated Open Space events with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
A significant amount of his work in health care has been with Starfield Consulting. He was co-author of Starfield’s research on effective transformative leadership in the public service and healthcare. That resulted in a four article series in Health Science Quarterly in 2007. Larry coached the CEO and executive team of Ottawa’s Montfort Hospital over an 8 month period and facilitated an Open Space session with hospital physicians to develop proposals for new and innovative clinics in the new facilities.
He has also worked with the Ontario Medical Association, the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Operation Health Protection Agency Implementation Task Force, West Central Local Health Integration Network Engagement Strategy, The Expert Panel on SARS and Infectious Disease Control, Community Care Access Centres-Long Term Care Priority Project, Operation Health Protection Public Health Capacity Review, Elder Health and Elder Care System Think Tanks, Ontario Telemedicine Network, VHA Home Care, Canada Health Infoway and the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
In addition to his work in health care, his work has included Open Space with Schools of Business, Universities, Teacher’s Federations, Children’s Aid Societies, Community Housing, and numerous private sector clients.
