Once in a Blue Moon

A unique opportunity to present your work & share what you know

Gloria Lattanzio, CEO - Chief Executive Organizer

ow often are you asked to present your work at a conference? Often, or only once in a blue moon?

Craving something new: This past year, I attended a number of conferences and was struck by the fact that, once again, I was listening to the usual presenters dispensing the usual information. Not that there’s anything wrong with the ‘usual’ but, after a while, one develops a craving for ‘new’ knowledge and perspectives. It made me wonder where all the other ‘knowledge rich’ people were.

It’s a rich world: Ours is a world rich in healthcare professionals doing amazing work! You are as are your colleagues. So, why isn’t it you, or them, presenting at these conferences? And, why is it that so many people doing significant work are rarely, if ever, invited to speak anywhere? Could it be that these conferences are not set up for non-professional speakers?

Limited choices: So, what avenues does someone doing work worth sharing have when it comes to telling the world about it? Not that many, when you stop to think about it!

The most obvious choice, apart from presenting at a conference, is setting up a website. But creating a site is an expensive and time consuming proposition. And, creating it is just the first step on a seemingly endless learning curve. And, just because you’ve created a site, doesn’t mean that the people you hope will visit will ever do so, or will even find you. In fact, the odds are quite a bit against it, even with Google’s help.

about the conference

There are one or two other ways of telling the world about your work. For example, you could write and publish a paper in a sector or discipline specific publication. But to do that you need to find a publisher and meet their many requirements. And, even if your paper is accepted, the audience is, more often than not, very limited.

The better way: Now there's the Conference.ca, which offers you a better way. The Conference site, which showcases what’s happening in healthcare… around the corner and around the world, gives you and your healthcare colleagues a once in a blue moon opportunity to significantly raise the visibility, value and impact of your and their work.

The Conference is designed to share, further and leverage healthcare knowledge across healthcare sectors, disciplines and philosophies, worldwide. It is founded on three simple ideas:

  1. Give healthcare professionals, who aren’t on the talk circuit, ‘airtime’, a platform, where they too can talk about the important work that they’re doing.
  2. Use information and communication technology to make healthcare knowledge, information and intelligence accessible by all.
  3. Create a rich bank of healthcare knowledge where professionals can deposit and withdraw knowledge, experience and expertise as needed.

Today, three years after its first hesitant footsteps, the Conference does just that. It is, in the words of its many visitors and participants:

an essential healthcare knowledge resource

People tell us this in person, when we meet them at physical conferences, over the phone and in their emails to us. The message is clear.

Proof is in the pudding: And, what better proof, or bigger testimonial, than the wide and diverse spectrum of professionals who support us in our endeavor by presenting their work here. Their presentations come in all forms: written, video, slides, audio, reports and more. This is truly a multi-media conference which takes advantage of every information communication technology available to advance the cause of knowledge sharing and transfer.

Worth doing, worth sharing: Are you doing work that’s important, work that’s making a difference in people’s lives, work that’s worth sharing? It’s hard to imagine anyone in healthcare that isn’t!

The world is listening: The healthcare professionals of this world, across sectors, disciplines and even philosophies, want to hear about your work. They want to learn from it and from your experiences. They want to learn from your innovations, your creative solutions and even from your mistakes. They want to take what you have learned, and know, and apply it to their area of healthcare. They, like you, want to make a difference and above all make healthcare better, and they need your help.

No limits: There are almost no limits as to what you can accomplish by presenting your work here. We exist, we are here, so that you can share, communicate and tell the world about the work that you’re doing and help advance healthcare, in the process.

Free-of-charge: We do not charge visitors any fee of any sort to access the presentations published here. We believe that charging for knowledge is an antiquated model, unsustainable in an internet-driven world. Knowledge, we believe, is no longer the privilege of the few but the right of the many. Making knowledge available free-of-charge is a direct application of that principle.

No advertising: Nor do we sell advertising space. While advertising is one of, if not the most, widespread and accepted business model on the internet, as a model it places the advertiser in the driver’s seat and the provider of content, you - the healthcare professional, in the passenger’s seat. We also find advertising to be irritating and distracting. And, forcing a presenter to share a page with advertising diminishes, in our opinion, the value of the presentation. That’s not right because the Conference was created and exists to present and value the presenter’s work not serve an advertiser’s profit-driven agenda.

In the driver's seat: Of course, the Conference needs to cover the costs associated with publishing presentations and maintaining them. To do that, we charge the presenter a modest setup and maintenance fee. While this funding model is a little unusual it has been accepted and proven itself to be viable. More importantly, it puts and keeps the presenter 'in the driver's seat'.

Our audience awaits: Healthcare professionals have a least two things in common: 1) the desire to make a positive contribution, and 2) the belief that their work will make a difference. Sharing knowledge is one of the most powerful ways of achieving these goals. The Conference has gained the trust and loyalty of a worldwide audience of interested and engaged healthcare professionals eager to share in your knowledge. Our audience is our greatest gift to all our presenters.

Expand, extend, impress: When you present here, we provide you with a once in a blue moon opportunity to expand your audience, extend your web presence and impress the world instantaneously. This worldwide audience of healthcare professionals is interested in you and your work. What are you waiting for? The time for you to present has arrived.
