T
he MobilizeYouth program is an intervention program for overweight youth and teens who eat poorly. MobilizeYouth’s multi-component approach ensures that youth learn what it takes to feel confident, healthier, and to carry on new physical activities outside the program. Youth who go through the program often rise to the challenge. Its rigorous fitness, educational experience involving trips to the supermarket and food tastings, and interactive coaching when emotional barriers get in the way, have made MobilizeYouth unique. Now in its third season, the program offers a July Boot Camp. Outcomes regarding lost inches and weight this past summer resulted out of the hard slogging and only healthy lunch routine undertaken by MobilizeYouth coaches, the Bruce Trail Hiking Association and of course, our terrific participants!
The Mobilize Youth Approach
MobilizeYouth asks families to commit to the 16-week program for a minimum of twice weekly. Sessions run 3 times weekly, two days after school and one weekend session. Kids and teens, who may not have weight issues but want to get in terrific shape to maintain a good level of physical activity, are welcome.
The Mobilize Youth Program
Tailored to your child's capacity, the one and a half hour session consists of 50 minute workouts: weight training, track program, cardio circuit, sports drills, spinning, as well as field sports when the weather is nice. In the weight room, older teens are on their own customized fitness program; all participants are under the guidance of caring, skilled coaches experienced in working with youth and families.Through proper instruction, kids learn how to use the machines properly to confidentally achieve their goals. It can be a challenge to keep teens engaged but this program provides enough diversity to build confidence through non-competitive activities.
