icole Messier, RN, BSN is the Clinical Program Coordinator/Nurse Navigator for the Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Multidisciplinary Care Cancer Clinic in the Vermont Cancer Center at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, VT.

Her role as a nurse navigator is to “navigate” patients who have been newly diagnosed with an upper GI malignancy, specifically esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, liver, or hepatobiliary cancers, thru their diagnosis, workup and treatment.

She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1998 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing and since then has worked as an oncology nurse at Fletcher Allen Health Care in a variety of roles, including staff nurse on the in-patient oncology unit, a primary nurse in the Department of Surgical Oncology, and has been in her current role as the GI nurse navigator in the Vermont Cancer Center since January, 2007. She is also a member of and sits as a leadership council member representing GI nurse navigators for the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators (AONN).
