rofessor Marion E.T. McMurdo, MBChB FRCP (Edin, Glas, Lond) MD CBiol FIBiol - is Head of Ageing and Health at the University of Dundee and an Honorary Consultant Physician in Medicine for the Elderly, in NHS Tayside. She is a graduate of Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee University and was appointed to the newly created chair of Ageing & Health in the University of Dundee in 1997. In addition to her clinical work and responsibility for undergraduate teaching, she leads a research team which focuses on the effects of physical activity, exercise and nutritional interventions on sarcopenia in older people and has published over 130 peer reviewed papers.

She was awarded the Lady Illingworth Prize in 2001, given to the UK clinician considered to have made the greatest contribution to improving quality of life of older people through research. She was Chair of the British Geriatrics Society (Scotland) from 2004 to 2006. In 2007 she was identified by the British Medical Association as one of 14 leading UK clinical academic role models. She and her research team were awarded the Bruce P Squires award by the Canadian Medical Association for paper of the year on 2008 for the paper most likely to favourably influence clinical practice.

In 2008 she was appointed to Chair the UK Clinical Research Network on Ageing.
