P erry McLeod -Shabogesic of the "Crane Clan" is an Ojibway Anishinabe from N'biising (Nipissing) First Nation (NFN). NFN is located on the north shores of Lake Nipissing in Northern Ontario.
He is a husband and father of three children and loves these family roles. Perry has been a cultural resource person, cartoonist/artist, writer, traditional helper and medicine harvester in and around his community for many years. His spirit name is "Aandzooked", which means "Story Teller" in Anishinabie. Perry is presently a “Helper/Oshkabewis” of the Anishinabek Nation Eagle Staff & Bundle. He is also a recognized Traditional Helper/ Oshkabewis/Pipe Carrier assisting and facilitating ceremonies for community members and families upon request.
Perry has also worked in the areas of health, social services, education, fisheries and culture. With his background he has been able to facilitate a variety of workshops. His work also includes the role as a health advocate and member of the Ontario Aboriginal Tobacco Strategy Working Group, Vice-chair of the West Nipissing Hospital Board and Interim Board Member for the West Nipissing Community Health Clinic.
Perry is an accomplished artist and cartoonist. About 15 years ago, he also developed a comic strip called "Baloney & Bannock". Since then, it has slowly become a cult favorite amongst many of the Anishinabek communities. A favorite subject he pokes fun at is the relationship between men & women. He hopes to write a book some day on the subject called “Women are From Venus and Men are From a Galaxy Far Far Away!!!!
He was recently elected on council for Nipissing First Nation and carries the Health/Social Portfolio along with Culture & Heritage. He continues to be asked to speak on many aboriginal issues by aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organizations across Ontario, Canada and abroad.
Presently he works for the Anishinabek/Ontario Fisheries Resource Centre (AOFRC) as the Community Liaison Specialist.
