C arol Kushner is a health policy analyst and co-author of two best-selling books on health policy: Second Opinion; What’s wrong with Canada’s health care system and how to fix it and Strong Medicine: How to save Canada’s health care system. In her consulting practice, she provides advice on new and emerging policies to governments, health organizations, organized labour and consumer groups. Her research interests include health economics, primary and long-term care, quality improvement, patient safety, and consumer involvement in health policy development. Carol is also a popular conference speaker in Canada and internationally and a frequent commentator on health issues on radio and television. As a volunteer, she serves on the board of PharmaWatch, an organization dedicated to improving the safety of prescription medicines, is a team member on a CIHR Team Grant at the University of Toronto looking at appropriate placement in long term care versus home care and human resources issues related to the shift to community care. Most recently, she has joined the Steering Committee of Patients for Patient Safety Canada part of the World Health Organization’s Patients for Patient Safety Initiative in the Pan-American region. Ms. Kushner is a recipient of the Association of Ontario Health Centres’ Award and has been nominated for a Canadian Science Writers Award.
