Klinic Community Health Centre

mdillon

K
linic Community Health Centre provides care to a diverse patient population in the core area of Winnipeg. The motto Hope and healing to all we serve reflects Klinic’s philosophy in how we direct care.

Klinic has been active in providing help to people in need since the early 1970s when it was started by a group of Medical Students at the University of Manitoba.

Now in our fourth decade, Klinic provides primary health care, counselling services, and community development and education.

The Counselling Services program includes crisis, post-trauma and drop-in counselling, 24 hour telephone crisis and suicide prevention lines, the Manitoba Farm and Rural Stress line, sexual assault crisis program, and domestic abuse help programs.

The Health and Education program includes Teen Talk peer support program, prenatal and baby wellness programs and many community development and education programs.

Klinic’s Health Services program provides primary care using an interdisciplinary model which involves nurses, doctors, nurse practitioners, social workers, dieticians and diabetic educators, Medical Assistants and outreach workers. We provide care to people from newborns to the elderly. We have special programs to provide expert primary care to adolescents, new Canadians and refugees from all corners of the world, Inuit people visiting Winnipeg for health care reasons, street-involved people in the sex trade or using substances, patients with HIV, hepatitis C, latent Tuberculosis infection, and sexually transmitted infections.

We have had the opportunity to work with CBC Radio One over the past year to produce a series of radio documentaries, which can be heard here, online or via podcast.

In the fall of 2007, a series on the Outfront program featuring Klinic was entitled ”Outfront: At Street Level”. The series was aired October 2-4, 2007 on CBC Radio One and is available in streaming audio through the CBC Outfront Website.
