Christine received her baccalaureate degree in nursing at McMaster University in 1985 and her Masters in Nursing Science at the University of Toronto in 1987. She worked several years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in acute care, rehabilitation, and long-term care. In 1998 Christine received a PhD in Nursing Science from Loyola University Chicago. Her program of research is grounded in human science and most broadly defined as Living with and Transforming Loss. She and her colleagues have researched quality of life with persons living with dementia and their families. This research was translated into a play entitled, I’m Still Here, in partnership with Act II Studio, Ryerson University and the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program at University of Waterloo. A SSHRC grant was received to evaluate the play’s impact on knowledge translation. Currently Christine is conducting three studies on living with and transforming loss with those who experience perinatal loss and bereavement. This year she is presenting her research at international conferences in New York City, Los Angeles, Spain and Toronto. Christine volunteers with parents who experience infant loss and is the author of Ethan’s Butterflies (www.trafford.com/06-0606), a spiritual book for parents and young children after a baby’s passing. She lives in Toronto with her husband, sons and yellow lab, Frodo.
