Thank you for sharing your progression of beliefs! Your story truly resonates with me and communicating in this way is so important in discovering 'why' each and every one of us are responsible for our personal health and how we can go about 'optimizing it'. It is so great to see people within the medical profession turning to and recognizing patient-centered holistic care. As you discuss in the video, the system currently doesn't allow for MDs to provide the care that just a little bit more time will take because of the structure of OHIP payments. Thank you for working on policy changes! I noticed that you work with with Naturopathic Doctor and a Chinese Medicine Practitioner in your clinic. These must additionally be such a great resource for your patients as they are able to be trained and practice in ways be integrative and preventative medicine, although services are unfortunately at a cost (hopefully covered by private medical insurance). This can be such a resource if the patient is able to be covered in order to get more time in a visit. I hope that more continue to push for policy changes necessary so that in the future all medical practitioners will look be able to focus on the patient as a person as you mentioned, with less of the financial pressures from the pharmaceutical industry and also be educated in nutrition and basic health practices in order to provide holistic care. If this education and type of care could be integrated into the OHIP system, Canada would really start to become a leader in socialized medicine and health care. Plus it would save us as a province and country so much money in the long time because as you said, integrative medicine can focus on prevention. What you are doing is so inspiring! Patient-centered care will hopefully soon move into the hegemonic ideology of what will make our health care system. Thank you for your incredible work and for sharing this article!
