Ernie Murakami, MD is a retired family physician. Ernie's passion and interest in Lyme disease started with his first case of Lyme disease from a Hope BC patient in 1994. Over the years, he has attended conferences of Lyme disease and has become privy to the vast differences within the medical community views of this disease.Dr. Murakami was educated at the University of British Columbia where he obtained his Bachelors in Immunology & Bacteriology, and continued on to achieve his MD. He has been honoured and recognized for his efforts to further the education of fellow colleagues through the UBC, giving him the status of Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus. Dr. Murakami is the founder of the Dr. E. Murakami Centre for Lyme Research, Education and Assistance and has made it his life's work to further educate and treat Lyme in Canada.
Recently, he lectured at Aldergrove BC to a large group of RNs and the public, at Camp Hope near Agassiz BC for 5 consecutive days, Surrey Memorial Hospital to MDs, BC naturopathic Doctors in Fort Langley, Sto:Lo Nation in Mission BC, Manitoba Provincial Health in Winnipeg, North Carolina "Peer Observations" where he was awarded best presentation. He has also recently given public lectures at the Eagles Hall in Hope BC, Penticton BC elementary school children, public lecture at BCIT Burnaby campus, and has been invited to speak many times in Kamloops, Victoria, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Duncan, Salt Spring Island BC, Winnipeg MB, Lethbridge AB, Cape Breton NS, Halifax NS, Ottawa ON and Denver CO. Other groups he has been invited to speak to are Environment Canada in Vancouver BC, Wild Game and Outdoor Living in Ladner BC, North Shore Health Unit in North Vancouver BC, Chawathal Band BC, Fraser Canyon Hospital active medical staff and RNs, Hope Golf Course women's auxiliary, Pincher Creek Hospital AB, Mt Sinai Hospital Toronto ON, Philadelphia PA ILADS meeting, Outdoor Medicine in Whistler BC, Agassiz Mountain Institute, Chilliwack Hospital active medical staff, Matsqui Correctional Centre in Abbotsford BC, Veterinary Association annual meeting in Abbotsford BC, RNABC at Harrison Hot Springs BC, Lyme Borreliosis Conference 1994 Vancouver BC, Infectious Diseases Conference UBC 2002, various radio talk shows nationwide, tick removal conferences, medical students 2000-2005 on family practice and Lyme disease, continuous teaching of residents and medical students for 30 years, Lyme disease lectures for 15 years, and many one-on-one lectures with medical doctors. |
