G len Hougan is an industrial/product designer whose background is in the area of human factors, cultural ergonomics and design ethnography. His current design and research interests are in universal design (design for an aging population), ecologically centered design, and new methods of production (rapid prototyping and digital fabrication).
He is currently a design faculty member of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where he teaches product design and user-centered design. He is also principal of Wellspan Research and Design, which focuses on healthcare products and design for an aging population. His research and work in this area has garnered national and international attention. This fall he will be featured on the PBS show "Life Part 2" in the episode "the mechanics of aging".
