On the benefits of eating more fibre

Dr. Sandra Romano Anthony is a Nutritionist and Health Promoter who teaches Nutrition and Stress Management at the University of Toronto, throughout Ontario, the USA and the Caribbean.
F
ree radicals are weapons of mass destruction’ in our bodies. They are produced through natural body functions, inhalation of polluted air, stress and smoking. Free radicals damage body and brain cells - and trigger many diseases. Free radicals are connected to cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and overall aging. Antioxidants, obtained naturally from a balanced, high-fibre, diet, ‘mop up’ free radicals, protect our cells from destruction and reduce our risk of developing these diseases. [If you already have a disease, antioxidants can help you to better manage it]. A high fibre diet will also help you to lose weight - sensibly.

The section on the Caribbean sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) highlights a natural, proven, treatment for painful menstrual periods and menopausal symptoms including low sex drive, thinning hair (alopecia) and excess facial hair (hirsutism). As an excellent source of fibre, it can reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men and may also enhance their sex drive. It is safe for diabetics too! The Caribbean sweet potato can be grown in Toronto (the GTA); now is the time to plant - for harvest around September. This presentation is easy to understand and quite entertaining.
