Krista Flint is the Executive Director of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society. She has spent 15 years in the field of inclusion and disability culture.

rista Flint is the Executive Director of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society.

She has spent 15 years in the field of inclusion and disability culture. She is passionate about social justice and its subsequent lack of resonance in the lives of Canadians with Developmental Disabilities. Her most recent work has involved a developing partnership with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselors and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada in the creation of a value neutral language bank which will facilitate the provision of fair and balanced information about Down syndrome both pre and postnatally. She has also co-authored the recent Canadian Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology article entitled. “Prenatal Screening for Fetal Aneuploidy: A Commentary by the Canadian Down Syndrome Society”.

She is a founding member of the Pan-Canadian Nurturing Belonging Initiative, which seeks to eliminate isolation and loneliness in the lives of Canadians with developmental disabilities.  Her work has been published in many disability publications and her pieces have also been published in both of the Canadian National newspapers, the Globe and Mail and the National Post.

Krista was responsible for stewarding the creation of an Alberta based social marketing initiative Everyone Belongs, and has been a presenter at the recent United Nations Consultation on the Canadian Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities in Ottawa.

Krista’s recent paper “The  Chasm Between Diagnosis and Intervention-A Closer Look at the Dual Diagnosis of Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness”  is showcased as the key note presentation in the July 2009 Forum at The First Canadian Health Care Conference, and she will be a presenter at the World Down Syndrome Congress in Dublin in 2009.

Krista holds an undergraduate honors degree in Social Science She lives in Calgary Alberta Canada with her husband Craig and three small boys.
