T ristram Engelhardt Jr., holds an M.D. with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine (1972), a B.A. (1963) and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin (1969), and a doctor honoris causa from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Gr. T. Popa”, Iasi, Romania (2005). Among his visiting appointments, he has been a Fulbright Graduate Fellow at Bonn University, Germany (1969-1970), and a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in West Berlin, Germany (1988-1989). Currently, Dr. Engelhardt is Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Rice University, and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine. Prof. Engelhardt is senior editor of the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, Christian Bioethics, the Philosophy and Medicine book series with nearly one hundred volumes in print, and the book series Philosophical Studies in Contemporary Culture. He has authored over three hundred thirty articles and chapters of books, and over one hundred twenty book reviews and other publications. There have been more than one hundred forty reprintings or translations of his publications. He has also co-edited over thirty volumes. His books include The Foundations of Bioethics (New York: Oxford, 1996) (translated into Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish) and The Foundations of Christian Bioethics (Salem, Mass.: M&M Scrivener Press, 2000) (translated into Greek, Portuguese, and Romanian). His recent edited volumes include Global Bioethics: The Collapse of Consensus (M&M Scrivener, 2006).
