B orn in Toronto. Educated in North York and graduated from York University with the Honours BA magna cum laude in 1967. Completed the MA (1968) and PhD (1975) in political science at Northwesten University in Chicago and began teaching in the political science department, Faculty of Arts, at York in July, 1970. Principal areas of research and teaching include political parties and elections, Canadian public policy (pensions and retirement, labour, health), and Ontario politics. Served as Undergraduate Director in political science, 1977-79 and Chair of the department, 1986-88; Chairperson of the York University Faculty Association, 1984-85; Faculty of Arts Council, Vice-Chair (1986-87) and Chair (1987-88); Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts, 1988-93; Chair, APPC (Senate), 1989-90; Acting Dean, Faculty of Arts, 1993-94; Senate of York University, Vice-Chair (1999) and Chair (2000-2001); Dean, Faculty of Arts 2001-present
