D r. Shafik Dharamsi, PhD. is Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine, and Faculty Lead of the Global Health Network at the Liu Institute for Global Issues. Prior to coming to UBC he was with the Aga Khan Development Network implementing an extensive health promotion and early-childhood development initiative in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda (2000-2003). His work has been featured on a Canadian television documentary series, The Global Villagers. His research focuses on how health professions education can best prepare future practitioners to make judgments that are not only technically sound but also ethically and socially responsible. Educating future practitioners to be responsive to the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations, the broader determinants of health and to effectively address related inequities is one of the most pressing and challenging issues facing educators today
