the concept2 story
Concept2 got its start in 1976 in the back of a bread truck when Dick and Pete Dreissigacker, fresh from Olympic training, started making composite racing oars—now the oar of choice among the world's rowers. They went on to create the Concept2 Indoor Rower, now used worldwide by Olympic athletes, cardiac rehab patients and every caliber of rower in between ... more

the ultimate workout
It is rare to find an activity that works as many muscle groups through as wide a range of motion as rowing. Knees, hips, arms and shoulders will each see 90–130 degrees of rotation in every stroke, which is more than you’ll find in most other aerobic activities. This extensive muscle involvement makes rowing a great calorie burner that also allows you to develop flexibility and strength ... more

osteoporosis and rowing
People have often asked us if rowing is a good form of exercise for the prevention of osteoporosis. We recently found some research that tells at least part of the story. The study was done at the Washington University School of Medicine and was published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research in 1997. The researchers compared two modes of exercise: ground-reaction force and joint-reaction force. Ground-reaction force (GRF) exercise included walking, jogging and stepping. Joint-reaction force (JRF) exercise included weight-lifting and rowing on the Concept 2 Indoor Rower ... more

visually impaired and rowing
It is exciting that our sport of rowing has so much to offer blind or vision-impaired people. Aerial and other blind rowers are inspirational examples of the power of a “can do” attitude. At Concept2 we want to cheer them on! Let the races begin—in health clubs, virtual online competitions and on the water. Let the champions among us—with or without sight—inspire each other to be all we can be ... more
