S hin-Yi Chou, Ph.D. - Frank L. Magee Professor of Economics at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Chou received her Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University (1999), and a B.A. in Economics from the National Taiwan University (1994). Dr. Shin- Yi Chou was appointed assistant professor of economics at Lehigh University in 2003. She is the PhD Program Director of College of Business and Economics at Lehigh University. She was the recipient of the Carl R. and Ingeborg Beidleman Research Award in 2006 and Hillman Award for Graduate Advising in 2009.
She is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research. Prior to joining the Lehigh faculty, Dr. Chou was an assistant professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In 2002, she was recognized with the University Excellence in Teaching Award. Currently, Dr. Chou is teaching health economics and applied microeconomics and supervising several PhD students at Lehigh University.
Dr. Chou's research interests include health economics, applied econometrics and applied microeconomics. Her current research focuses on four aspects: (1) child well-being (i.e. health and education); (2) quality and cost of health care; (3) physician behaviors; and (4) economics of obesity. Chou is the author of numerous journal articles and book chapters, including pieces for the Journal of Health Economics, the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Public Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Rand Journal of Economics, the Journal of Law and Economics, and the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics. She has presented at numerous conferences across the country and internationally.
Dr. Chou lives in Southern Pennsylvania with her husband and two daughters and enjoys spending time with her family.
