M arcia Carr, N,BN,MS,GNC(C),NCA - is a clinical nurse specialist in acute geriatrics, geropsychiatry and a nurse continence advisor in Fraser Health, Burnaby Hospital site. She holds adjunct positions at Simon Fraser University - Department of Gerontology Research, University of British Columbia - School of Nursing, University of Victoria - School of Nursing and clinical assistant at McMaster University - School of Nursing.
Marcia has had the absolute privilege of being the lead for the BC Ministry of Health, Nursing Directorate's BC Acute Care Geriatric Nurse Network Clinical Nurse Specialist Collaborative which provides the development and implementation delivery for two projects - Acute Care Geriatric Nurse Network (ACGNN) and Geriatric Emergency Network Initiative (GENI). These two projects have been in existence for the past 6 and 3 years respectively. Although the Ministry funding has now ended (March 2008), sustainability has been developed which fosters e-learning as the medium for knowledge transfer. Furthermore, she is a member of the UBC Care of Elders Advisory Committee and a member of the development and implementation interdisciplinary teams who produce problem-based learning modules.
Her vision is that when older adults are in need of our care that we embrace their health complexities and life histories in order to help them maintain their chosen quality for their ongoing life story.
