M arilyn Butcher - graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Toronto. She has worked as a Registered Nurse in a variety of settings in Toronto and Sudbury including hospitals, health units and teaching at the college and university levels.
A graduate of the first year of the Ontario COUPN Nurse Practitioner program in 1996, she has worked in a variety of settings across the province as a NP and has mentored many RN, NP and medical students. Professional experiences include proposal writing, program and course development, co-author and presenter of “Merging Traditional Aboriginal and Western Health Practices in a Canadian Urban Aboriginal Community” in Melbourne, Australia in April 2000. Marilyn has been an active member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, sitting as Chair of Political Action 2000-2002 and Chair of Communications 2004-2006. She presented “Nurse Practitioners : Part of the Solution to the Primary Health Care Crisis” to the Romanow Commission in 2002. She has been an active participant in advocating for the role of the nurse practitioner in Ontario’s health care system. Marilyn is currently Clinic Director and sits on the Board of Directors of the Sudbury District Nurse Practitioner Clinics.
