J amie Burnett is a graduate of the renowned National Theatre School of Canada and has been a professional actor for many years. He performed at the Shaw Festival for two years and was a member of the Canopy Theatre Company for four years performing Shakespeare outdoors.
Jamie has worked as a drama teacher for both the Drama Workshop and Arts Express. He has spent over six years as an educational assistant working with children with special needs within the Toronto District School Board.
Five years ago with the assistance of Therapeutic Clowns Canada Jamie founded the therapeutic clown program at Bloorview Kids Rehab. Since he began he has helped to instigate many innovative projects such as the Patient Safety video, ‘How to wash your hands,’ starring Ricky the clown. As well, very recently a research project investigating the effects of therapeutic clowns on the inpatient and nursing population was one of four projects to be awarded a Bloorview Seed Grant. The Bloorview therapeutic clown program is now the first pediatric program in Toronto to adopt the popular duo model style of clown. Jamie is constantly looking for further ways to expand the program at Bloorview Kids Rehab, through education, integration and collaboration.
Jamie is a member of the Canadian Association of Therapeutic Clowns, the Society for Arts in Healthcare and a founding member of Dr. Clown Toronto.
