Manifesto
W elcome to the Conference ... where we
showcase what's happening in healthcare ... around the corner and around the world.
- the people - their work, their ideas and their achievements;
- the organizations, the consultants and the businesses - their services and their products;
- the authors and the speakers - their books, their services and their experiences.
This unique, cutting-edge site was conceived of and designed by healthcare professionals for healthcare professionals to allow them to collaborate and share their work across sectors, disciplines and philosophies.
Our Goal
To showcase innovative, interesting and critical work underway in healthcare, work which is making significant positive contributions to the health system and to people's lives.
What Drives Us
To create a legacy of healthcare knowledge, accessible and widely available to all healthcare professionals, and interested others, anytime, anywhere. And, to remove barriers to sharing and accessing healthcare knowledge by making it available free-of-charge.
Our Values
Inclusiveness: We believe that everyone working in healthcare is doing work of value, (be it clinical, administrative, policy, research, education, ...). And, we believe that if the work is worth doing – it’s worth sharing. So, we give all professionals, organizations and businesses the opportunity to increase the value, visibility and impact of their work, services and products by showcasing them. Presenters who enjoy outstanding international reputations present alongside grassroots community organizations thereby democratizing the healthcare landscape and giving everyone a worldwide stage to share their work.
Social Justice: We approach healthcare from a broad social determinants of health perspective. We believe that the relationship between deprivation and health is basic to any responsive healthcare system. And that, we can no longer afford the luxury of focusing primarily on the prevention and treatment of illness while ignoring its root causes.
Collaboration: We are facing unprecedented challenges in healthcare. Do we have the knowledge to tackle these challenges? We believe we do. And so we built a site which gives the healthcare sector the ICT (Information Communication Technology) tools to share and collaborate in radically new ways, and in real time to tackle these challenges. We built this site to:
Harness the collective intelligence, collective knowledge and collective wisdom of the the world's healthcare professionals because ...
Knowledge is no longer the privilege of the few but the right of the many.
Funding
W e are working to change the 'old order of things', the one which favours the privileged few who have the time and money to attend physical conferences, pay for journal articles and subscription knowledge by:
making healthcare knowledge accessible and available to all healthcare professionals, anytime, anywhere, FREE-of-charge.
We are small, nimble and operate on a shoestring budget. We do so by choice and by design. We do not seek, or receive, subsidies of any kind from, nor do we look to, traditional sources such as government, special interest groups or corporate investment.
Instead we look to 3 distinct, yet complementary, funding models:
- Page (present, promote, publicize) services,
- Sponsorship, and
- Donations
Page services: We are continuously creating and sell an assortment of specialized services. Page services are designed with businesses, organizations, consultants and professionals in mind. They are designed to increase the visibility, value and impact the work, products and services showcased.
Our goal is to become self-sustaining by funding the ongoing design, operation and maintenance costs of the platform from the sale of Presentation services.
Sponsorship: We would like to use sponsorship as a conduit - to channel monetary resources from those who have to those who have not. Sponsorship is designed for organizations and businesses which want to support and advance work in specific areas of healthcare.
Donations: Finally, we look to donations to support the ongoing development of the Conference platform. This includes R & D into new technologies, new methodologies and new ways by which professionals, organizations and business can better showcase their work, products and services.
Grounded in age old values of thrift and frugality, these funding models are designed to deliver maximum value to all presenters, participants, exhibitors, sponsors, donors and staff through the judicious and effective use of funds.
Vision
O ur vision, simply put is:
health equity for all.
Working toward our vision means working together towards eliminating health disparities which are dehumanizing, avoidable and unjust.
We recognize that health, and inequalities in health, are influenced by a variety of public policies and social, political, economic and environmental factors, which lie outside the exclusive jurisdiction of the health sector. Health equity focuses not only on health care and health outcomes but with the broader considerations of social justice directly related to health.
The magnitude of this issue requires the health sector to collaborate with government and society to address those factors that influence health. That is well beyond the scope of this Conference and our control. But what we can do is …
To begin to affect change and inspire hope by facilitating collaboration across all health sectors, across all health disciplines... around the corner and around the world.
Cross-sectoral collaboration fosters creativity and innovation which, in turn, begins to address the unprecedented challenges facing the health system of today; and will inspire major breakthroughs for the future.
But, to achieve this, we need to look beyond our individual sectors, silos, disciplines and philosophies...
The time is... RIGHT ... NOW !
